Laura

Contemporary$$$

A paragon of destination dining.

It’s easy to feel insignificant against the sweep of sky and ocean, the serious art in the gardens, the soaring ceilings and windows. But Pt Leo Estate’s fine-diner Laura drops you into the centre of this wonderland.

Snowy tablecloths are the stage for well-crusted Blackmore wagyu in a dashi broth that twinkles with tiny spheres of beetroot and apple. Murray cod sits proudly among streaks of bright-green rocket sauce and chilli-stained pil pil that beats with deep oceanic soul. A serpentine curve of firm chocolate mousse echoes brutalist architecture.

Well-drilled staff call out Point Leo, Flinders and Carrum Downs with respect to provenance of produce, while the wine list balances pricey French pours with the estate’s own bottles. A hand-written thank you note and sculpture park tickets arrive with your bill, plus a box of macarons to take home.

Best for: Showing visitors the fine side of Victoria’s arts scene, dining and natural beauty.
