The Wine Bar at The International

Contemporary$$

A rip-roaring wine list backed up by a European-leaning menu.

The Wine Bar at The International.

Sommelier Jacqueline Turner’s extensive wine list travels the world to bring you one of Sydney’s most singular drinks lists. If tasting notes such as “goth, euphoric, brilliance” or “powerful, outrageous” leave you with more questions than answers, the team of knowledgeable staff can help.

While you’re sampling a glass of verdicchio or a whole bottle of juicy Etna Rosso, it’s worth making a night out of the food as well. There’s real value in the blistered, nicely acidic pizza dough that might be topped with sweet clams, or soft, salty ribbons of pork jowl with prawns. Al dente orecchiette with morsels of pork sausage and verdant cime di rapa is particularly full of flavour. If you’re more in the zone for small plates, try and time your run for the “Sips + Snacks” happy hour for a discount on anchovies on pan con tomate and scallop crudo with grapefruit.

Enjoy those snacks outside on sunshine-yellow conversation pit-esque couches, while the beautiful mid-century modern dining room is best suited for a longer innings.

Good to know: Wine fans should gravitate to the “takeover” nights where guest producers pour their favourite drops.
