High-energy rooftop bar worth dressing up for.

From the team that brought you Aalia in Martin Place, Joji is a spacious 100-seat rooftop bar with a Japanese bent. Perched above the Cartier flagship store, its blackwood tables are mostly crowded with good-looking, highly preened people, and it’s certainly an attractive place to be seen, featuring shiny metals popping against earth tones, polished timbers and cosy upholstery.

Three-bite snacks are very much the thing. Say, koji-boosted lamb cutlets with pickled daikon and sansho pepper, or soy-marinated chicken karaage blistered in a potato flour batter made extra buttery thanks to a spritz of beurre noisette. You can build a full dinner around the hibachi grilled wagyu glazed in mushroom tare, or a summer-friendly lunch headlined by a sashimi plate bright with tuna, salmon, kingfish and scallop.

A smaller bar menu is available late at night, too, and champions a burger sauced with bolognese (yes) made from the cooked down trim and fat caps of Japan’s super marbled “A5” wagyu. It’s as intense as Joji’s interiors are nice to look at.

Good to know: It’s worth visiting for the inventive cocktail list alone.
