Caravin

Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?
This tiny little bistro appears to channel Ratatouille, Juliette Binoche and Friends all at once. Its cosy, shadowy and chandelier-lit interior has art and wine lining the walls and fresh baguettes poking out of a cupboard under the stairs. In other words, quite adorable.
Set up by Bar Suze’s Greg Bampton and Phil Stenvall in 2023, Caravin offers a likeable menu of small-to-middling dishes from the lighter side of the French bistro playbook. Crab toast actually tastes of crab, piled high on fried bread, and sheep’s milk halloumi comes with soft, melting figs and honeyed juices.
The kitchen is good with classic sauces, bathing seafood dumplings in a rich bisque, and adding peppy green peppercorn butter to grilled wagyu minute steak. Settle in, explore the mostly French, all-natural list with its chilled reds and orange wines, and soak up the charm.
