Thanh Mai

One of the restaurants that helped make Canley Heights as an evening dining precinct, Thanh Mai is open til 2am on weekends. Blue and green neon lights cast a zany carnival hue over this restaurant, an effect ably supported by brightly coloured plastic plants. Save the orders for pho and noodle dishes for dedicated pho eateries, and come here for the likes of fish canh chua steamboat (Vietnamese sour soup), the fish cooked at your table. Also on the 200-plus-dish menu are terrific goi cuon (fresh rice-paper rolls) and flavour-packed lemongrass chicken, with discernable saltiness and pungency from prawn paste and a liberal dose of fish sauce.
