Old Cuban champagne cocktail recipe
One of only a handful of truly classic cocktails to be invented in the modern era, the Old Cuban is a mash-up of the classic champagne cocktail and the mojito. This drink pays homage to the Prohibition era of the 1920s, when American socialites flocked to Cuba to party. Invented by Audrey Saunders of Pegu Club in New York, this refreshing tipple is perfect for the rum lovers.
Ingredients
45ml aged Cuban rum
20ml fresh lime juice
20ml sugar syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
6 mint leaves
30ml sparkling wine to top
mint sprig to garnish
Method
Add all ingredients except sparkling to a cocktail shaker full of ice.
Shake hard for 10 seconds, then fine-strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Top with sparkling wine and garnish with mint sprig.
