‘Gluten-free Coco Pops with lactose-free milk’: an actor’s day on a plate
Tasneem Roc is an actor. The 45-year-old shares her day on a plate.
8am Coffee with a dash of lactose-free milk.
10am Breakfast is fried eggs, green leaves, coleslaw mix, lactose-free cheese and sliced tomato on gluten-free tortillas topped with tomato sauce and a hot sauce.
12pm Another coffee. Caffeine-induced anxiety hasn’t kicked in yet, so testing the boundaries.
5pm A glass of HIGHR non-alcoholic gin and tonic over ice. This one contains nootropics, and let’s be honest, my brain needs all the help it can get.
8pm Home-made beef meatballs, steamed vegies and a chunky onion and herb salsa. Dessert is a bowl of gluten-free Coco Pops with lactose-free milk. If you keep filling the bowl, it is still only one bowl.
Dr Joanna McMillan says
Top marks for… Two pretty well-balanced meals. Both included a good dose of protein with a nice mix of vegies. Nothing wrong with your two cups of coffee – these naturally contain bioactives which are good for the brain. Your lactose-free dairy is terrific for calcium.
If you keep eating like this you’ll… Fall short on meeting your fibre needs as many gluten-free products lack fibre and this day had no fruit, nuts, seeds or legumes. These foods not only provide fibre but are key sources of nutrients such as vitamin C, folate and magnesium.
Why don’t you try… Including gluten-free wholegrains such as quinoa or black/brown/red rice in your diet. Add canned beans to your tortillas. Swap the sugary breakfast cereal for a fruit salad with lactose-free yoghurt and a sprinkle of seeds and nuts.
Tasneem Roc stars in Mother of the Bride, streaming on Netflix.
