‘A 5am glass of water with a greens and probiotic powder’: Does a dietitian approve?

5am Glass of water with a greens and probiotic powder, as well as a multivitamin and collagen shot.

6.30am Breakfast is two fried eggs, avocado and apple cider vinegar.

10am Coffee and a choc-chip cookie. I rarely eat while at work.

3pm Pick up the kids and grab a fruit salad on the way.

4pm Once I’m home, I snack on some Brazil nuts and a piece of cheese.

6pm Scotch fillet on the barbecue with cabbage salad and two glasses of water.

9pm A banana before bed and magnesium powder with a glass of water.

Top marks for … Snacking on fruit and nuts, both are nutrient dense, wholefood options, while the cheese was the sole high calcium food for the day.

If you keep eating like this you’ll … Miss out on the benefits of vegies with their array of nutrients, fibre and phytonutrients. Powders cannot replace eating the recommended five serves of veg a day, and your only veg was the cabbage salad.

Why don’t you try … Add mushrooms, spinach or asparagus to breakfast. Swap the green powder for a green smoothie made with wholefoods. Add Greek yoghurt to your fruit salad to boost both protein and calcium. Add sweet potato, carrot or pumpkin to dinner as different coloured vegies add a variety of phytonutrients.
