‘Dinner is a comforting chicken schnitzel’: What this young chef eats in a day
Morgan Hipworth is a chef competing in Dessert Masters on Network Ten. Here, the 22-year-old shares his day on a plate.
7.30am I have a bowl of yoghurt and muesli to provide a quick energy boost. I drink water throughout the day.
10am I grab my go-to coffee, a strong almond latte, to refuel and rejuvenate.
2pm One of my favourites – homemade chicken fried rice with kecap manis. It’s a delightful combination of sweet and savoury that keeps me fuelled for a busy afternoon of brainstorming, meetings and a gym workout.
4pm Post-gym, I have a protein shake to aid recovery and keep the hunger pangs at bay until dinner.
7.30pm After a hectic day, dinner is a comforting chicken schnitzel with sides of cauliflower bake,
roast potatoes, corn and peas.
Dr Joanna McMillan says:
Top marks for … An ideal brekkie. The muesli is fibre-rich, fuelling not just you but your microbiota, while the yoghurt adds friendly gut bugs, protein and calcium.
If you keep eating like this you’ll … Miss out on the benefits found in fruit, nuts and seeds, all absent in this day. Fruit contains unique antioxidants and fibre types, as well as being key for vitamin C, while nuts and seeds are important sources of nutrients such as vitamin E, magnesium and healthy fats.
Why don’t you try … Adding berries or fruit to your breakfast. Whip up a homemade protein shake by blending fruit, nuts and seeds with milk and yoghurt.
Morgan Hipworth is competing in Dessert Masters, premiering on November 12 on Network Ten.
