A handful of tamari almonds is how this CEO gets through the afternoon

Co-founder of Who Gives a Crap Simon Griffiths, 40, shares his day on a plate.

8am A cup of licorice tea after a morning surf and before the 8.20am school bus drop-off.

10.30am A bowl of nutrient-dense granola and a cup of Earl Grey tea, both with oat milk.

1pm Soba noodles with edamame, a fried egg and black sesame seeds, topped with Kewpie mayo. It’s a super-fast and tasty lunch!

2.30pm Four squares of 78 per cent dark chocolate and an Earl Grey tea. A handful of tamari almonds a little later gets me through the afternoon.

6pm Tofu and broccoli with oyster sauce and a squeeze of lime on brown rice, plus a non-alcoholic beer. I aim to have two or three alcohol-free days and three to five vegetarian evening meals each week.

Dr Joanna McMillan says:

Top marks for … Getting whole grains into each meal – your oats in the granola, buckwheat in the soba noodles and the brown rice. These deliver cereal fibres that have particular benefits for gut health by fuelling good gut bacteria.

If you keep eating like this you’ll … Miss out on the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds found in fruits and vegetables that help protect our cells from damage and assist in healthy ageing. This day had no fruit and only two vegies – the edamame and broccoli.

Why don’t you try … Adding sliced fruit to granola, some Asian greens or spinach to lunch, and stir-fried mixed vegies to dinner. Add berries or sliced apple to your almonds.
