Mary Poppins’ star, Lucy Maunder, 37, shares her day on a plate.

7am Wake up and get my daughter ready for school. I have my morning coffee – an “oat magic”, a double ristretto three-quarters full with oat milk – at the cafe we own next door.

11am Snack on some rice crackers while trying to fast until lunch.

1pm Lunch is a plant-based patty and salad. I’m mostly vegetarian, with a bit of fish here and there.

3.30pm I start making curry from scratch using every vegetable in my fridge, plus spices and fresh ginger and coriander. My guilty pleasure is roti bread on the side.

10.30pm Home after the show, I have some Polish pickles with cheese and a packet of popcorn.

Dr Joanna McMillan says:

Top marks for … Your curry, which incorporates a good mix of veggies, plus herbs and spices that add antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. Roti is usually made with wholemeal flour – a more nutritious choice than white rice.

If you keep eating like this you’ll … Have to watch you don’t fall short on key minerals best found in animal foods, especially iron and calcium. Fasting may be beneficial but you’re not really fasting as you eat late at night and in the morning.

Why don’t you try … Eating your snack as soon as possible after the show to give yourself at least an hour after eating before bed. Skip the crackers and eat lunch earlier, adding wholegrain bread and/or canned beans to the salad. Ensure your oat milk is calcium-fortified.

Lucy Maunder is starring in Mary Poppins at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne.
