Trump would be 'the end of the West'
By
Capping off a turbulent few days for Donald Trump, he seems to have suggested in an interview that he would hesitate to support NATO allies if they came under attack.
Speaking to the New York Times, Mr Trump said if Russia attempted to attack countries such as small Baltic states which have recently been admitted into the NATO alliance, he would first see if the countries "have fulfilled their obligations to us" before offering military support.
He would "prefer to be able to continue" existing security agreements, which mean the United States would automatically support allies if they are attacked, but said US allies need to bear some of the defence costs.
The comment was met with disbelief, with the Foreign Minister of one NATO country reportedly saying Trump would be "the end of the west".
The grey wall, topped with American flags and razor wire, refers to Trump's frequent calls to build a wall between the US and Mexico.

Trump speechwriter has been blamed before
By
Meredith McIver, the speechwriter who offered her resignation over remarkable similarities between the speeches of Michelle Obama and Melania Trump, has also taken the blame for mistakes before.
In a deposition in 2007, the New York Times reports, Donald Trump was asked if he had exaggerated how much he was in debt in books co-written by Ms McIver, to make his subsequent comeback seem more dramatic.
Mr Trump said the figure was an exaggeration, but he didn't make the mistake.
"This is somebody that wrote it, probably Meredith McIver," he said.
Here is a recap of Cruz's historic decision to not endorse Donald Trump for president, stunning Republicans.
Anti-Trump Republican delegate Ken Cuccinelli told Reuters he escorted Senator Cruz's wife Heidi off the convention floor in Cleveland out of concern for her safety.
"During the course of the speech more and more people were coming down closer and closer to Heidi and [Ted Cruz's father] Rafael. When the speech ended, there was an ugly crowd behind us. She was trying to leave," Mr Cuccinelli said.
Ignoring calls for Republican unity, Texas senator Ted Cruz has called on Americans to vote with their conscience and has stubbornly withheld his endorsement of Donald Trump.
This event overshadowed all the nomination of Mike Pence Indiana governor and former congressman as the Republican vice presidential candidate.
It also overshadowed a long list of obscure business and marketing and religious figures who appeared on behalf of Trump.

"And to those listening, please don't stay home in November."
"If you love our country and love your children as much as you do, stand and speak and vote your conscience vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom to be faithful to the Constitution."
