Flight of Fancy Podcast: The world's best bathing experiences

Ben Groundwater

Bathing is an important part of many cultures.iStock

This seems like something that shouldn't be… something. It's just bathing. Having a bath. Or a shower. Getting clean. Travellers talk about many things, we obsess over many things, but it's not often we discuss the simple process of having a scrub, because normally it's just that: a simple process.

But then, you're forgetting a few things. You're forgetting those onsens in Japan. You're forgetting the banyas in Russia. You're forgetting the saunas in Finland, the hammams in Turkey, the spas in Oman, the jimjilbangs in Korea, the mud in the Dead Sea, the herbal treatments in Laos. You're forgetting, essentially, one of the true joys of travel, one of the most interesting, immersive experiences you can possibly have: bathing.

On this episode of Flight of Fancy, I'm joined by two passionate bathers, Belinda Jackson and Sue Williams, to talk about some of most memorable and deeply cultural experiences of our travelling lives, which just happen to have taken place without clothes on. We're going to talk about bathing, and the most fascinating, hilarious and immersive places in the world where you can kick back and have a scrub.
