Australia were first up and managed an unlucky 1-1 draw with Denmark. Bert van Marwijk's men were probably the better side, but couldn't put any of a host of second half chances away and came away with just a point.
Mile Jedinak scored his second penalty in as many games, with Christian Eriksen opening the scoring with a smart finish for the Danes. Australia will have to win their last group game against Peru to have any chance of advancing to the next round.
Croatia through to the last 16, Argentina's World Cup on life support.
The best they can do now is four points, and they are currently on one. Regardless of the result of tomorrow's game between Iceland and Nigeria, the Argentines will be outside the top two in the group going into that final match against the African side.
Croatia are on a perfect six points, and can relax knowing no matter what happens against Iceland, they're through.
90th minute: What a meltdown for one of the competition favourites - Dybala has a shot saved at one end before Croatia spring forward and beat the offside trap and Kovacic rolls it back to Rakitic for the tap-in.
The camera pans to a child crying, then to Diego Maradona crying in the stands. There's shades of the Brazil 7-1 game to this - A ridiculous, surreal game where we've just seen a competition heavyweight completely humiliated.
86th minute: The Barcelona midfielder goes down and wins a free kick, before the Manchester City defender tries to boot the ball away in frustration - he gets both the ball and the man lying on the ground but only gets a yellow.
Rakitic nearly adds salt to the wound on the ensuing free kick, but it smacks the crossbar and bounces clear! 2-0 to Croatia, who are cruising.
80th minute: Game, set and match. Croatia are off to the final 16 and now Argentina have a mountain to climb on the final matchday.
A gorgeous, curling finish from 25 yards by the Real Madrid midfielder and Caballero, as much as he was at fault for the first, could do nothing about that. What a boilover.
75th minute: The Barcelona midfielder goes down near the centre circle, but Croatia continue their attack - only after Kramaric loses the ball and Argentina counter do the Croatian players suddenly want the ball kicked out.
Argentina don't oblige initially, before the referee eventually stops play with the ball inside the Croatian half. I hate that, it's not a head injury and Croatia were intent to keep attacking when Rakitic first went down - it's not up to Argentina to kick the ball out.
Predictably, Rakitic is up shortly after and back on the field.
68 minute: Juventus star Paulo Dybala finally gets a chance, coming for Enzo Perez for the final period of this game.
Still 1-0 to Croatia, and Argentina are staring down the barrel of a group stage exit if things continue in this manner.
66th minute: Mandzukic so close to making it two. Vrsaljko finds his striker in the penalty area but a last-ditch tackle from Tagliafico is enough to put him off and it's out for a goal kick.
Just over 20 minutes for Argentina to find a reply.
64th minute: Great slide-rule pass into the area to free Higuain, he just gets to the ball before it reaches the byline and cuts it back to the near post, only for Meza's shot to clatter straight into the keeper before Rakitic is able to lunge in and hack it away for a corner before Messi can follow up.
That set piece is cleared and Croatia still lead.
60th minute: As it stands, Croatia would be through to the last 16 no matter what happens from here on out - they would be on six points with Argentina on just one, with Iceland (1 point) and Nigeria (0 points) playing each other tomorrow.
Messi's men can't be eliminated today, but they will be on the brink of disaster if this scoreline stays the same.
They've made two quick changes since that goal - Gonzalo Higuain on for the ineffective Sergio Aguero, and Cristian Pavon on for Eduardo Salvio.
