“The headwear really dictated the entire point of view today,” Leong says. “It’s a piece called ‘Z, Z, Z’ … We just wanted to keep it relaxed, chic, elegant and fun.
There are many ways to dress femininely beyond a typical floral dress on Oaks Day, Leong says. For her, a “glamorous ’40s moment” fit the bill better than anything else.
“I like to tell a story with clothing. I think there’s a real opportunity to share a point of view without ever having to open your mouth or utter a word,” she says.
What’s even better is that her grey outfit perfectly matches her cat Ghost, whom she hopes to have a sweet photoshoot with later.
The people watching has been better than ever this year, Leong says. But instead of a colour or fabric du jour, she has been noticing more experimentation with different textures and shapes.
Her own outfit is a testament to this – an ensemble that plays with texture in a way that conjures memories of your own cherished childhood sleepovers.
