Business owner uses machete to fight back against intruders
A business owner has used a machete to fight back against intruders in Brisbane’s inner north.
The 68-year-old recent cancer survivor defended himself, his dogs, and his shop after two men in motorcycle helmets appeared at his front door on Wednesday about 8am.
Andrew from Prestige Coins and Collectables on Sandgate Road in Clayfield was at his desk and initially assumed they were delivery drivers.
When he went to open that front door, he was hit on the side of his recently operated-on head with a hammer.
CCTV captured the ordeal, showing Andrew shutting the door on the men before running to the back of his store.
The would-be intruders continued to smash their way through the door with hammers before Andrew returned with a large machete he keeps for self-defence.
He then used the machete to slash at the offenders through the holes they had smashed in the front door.
“I don’t think they would have thought that I would have fought back the way I did,” Andrew told 9News.
“I’m not a young guy. I’m not in the best of health, I’m not in the best of fitness.
“But I, you know, I do have the will to protect mine and my own.
“My dogs were very high on my list of priorities. Didn’t want them to get hurt in any way.”
The offenders eventually left, drops of blood seen trailing from the front door suggesting they were injured during the attack.
Andrew was treated at the shop for a minor head injury.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.
