- The head of one of Australia’s largest coal miners raised concerns about Labor’s plan to impose stricter pollution limits on the nation’s 215 top emitters that would force them to gradually lower or offset their carbon footprint over time, saying it was a carbon tax “by stealth”.
- There were nearly 36,600 new COVID-19 cases and 50 deaths recorded nationally.
- Western Australia announced that it will ditch its indoor mask mandate, stop requiring proof of vaccination and remove capacity limits at venues from Friday. It will also remove the need for close contacts to isolate for seven days.
