In the dark
Claire was watching a horror movie when the lights went out.
Just a blackout, she figured, but she suddenly felt as if she were being watched. A shiver rippled through her.
In the near pitch-dark, she fumbled unsuccessfully for her phone.
“Get a grip,” she mumbled as she shuffled towards her bedroom, avoiding glancing out the window lest she see someone, something, looking in.
Jim was snoring when she hopped into bed and desperately spooned him.

He awoke instantaneously and, misreading her intentions, turned towards her.
“Well, hello there!” he said, which at least took her mind off things.
