Summary

That's a wrap

By Farrah Tomazin

That's a wrap for the fourth and final day of the (virtual) Democratic National Convention.

Thanks so much for joining us this week - it's been a wild and unusual ride.

We've heard from past presidents, rising stars, and everyday Americans heading into what could soon be one of the most consequential elections in US history.

All eyes now turn to Donald Trump and the GOP, with the Republican National Convention kicking off on Monday.

Details are still being thrashed out, but Trump has already made it clear he wants fewer pre-recorded videos and more people and pizzazz.

It should be another interesting week...

Young Brayden shines at the DNC

By Farrah Tomazin and Chris Zappone

The hero of today's DNC was Brayden Harrington, a 13-year-old boy who met Biden in New Hampshire a few months ago.

"He told me that we were members of the same club: we stutter," he said.

"I'm just a regular kid, and in a short amount of time, Joe Biden made me more confident about something that’s bothered me my whole life."

More reaction to Biden's speech

By Chris Zappone

One view seems to be that Trump's strategy to paint Biden as in the throes of cognitive decline had lowered the bar for the standard of what would constitute a successful speech.

Virtual after party, anyone?

By Farrah Tomazin

What would a virtual convention be without a virtual after party?

Thanks to the global pandemic, there are no packed nightclubs and velvet ropes, but instead, Emmy Award-winning producer and author, Andy Cohen, will be dropping into the homes of A-list celebrities and activists across the country for several online segments.

According to the DNC organisers, attendees on the guest list include actress Alyssa Milano, comedian Aubrey Plaza, Brazilian actor Jaime Camil, model Jason George, and actress Zooey Deschanel, among others.

Biden exceeds expectations

By

US correspondent Matthew Knott gives his quick take on Biden's speech:

"Joe Biden exceeded expectations tonight with a passionate, uplifting speech that undercut Republican claims that he is in cognitive decline. While he mentioned some core policies, Biden played to his strengths: at times the speech felt more like a spiritual sermon rather than a political speech.

"It was more presidential than partisan in nature, offering a bridge to moderate and non-ideological voters to join the Democratic coalition. He spoke of light and darkness, right and wrong. And importantly, his delivery was crisp and devoid of any significant flubs.

"Democrats around the country will be delighted with how this unusual four-day virtual convention ended."
