The Italians are poised to finish strong in the mixed doubles with Greece after already securing a spot in the United Cup final against the US tomorrow.

Italy won the first set 6-3, although Greece have scored a break in the second.

The world No. 5 will face world 33, American Sebastian Korda, in tomorrow’s Adelaide International men’s final.

Despite an injury scare, Djokovic is in powerful form ahead of the Australian Open, where he’ll be gunning for his 22nd grand slam.

He says in the post-match interview the injury was “nothing serious” and he took some anti-inflammatories during his medical timeout.

Djokovic wins first set despite injury scare

Djokovic has taken the first set against Medvedev as the pair compete for the Adelaide International final against Sebastian Korda.

A troubled hamstring, which he strained during a slide, seems to be badgering the world No. 5 as he stretches between points and pulls up a little stiff during rallies. The problem thigh, his left, has been bandaged.

Adelaide: Djokovic ahead of Medvedev but injured

The Adelaide International showdown between Medvedev and Djokovic paused after the Serb slid to save a point and immediately clutched the back of his left thigh.

Djokovic went on a medical timeout with a hamstring complaint.

He’s back on court, where he’s up 5-2 against Medvedev.

Djokovic’s match against Denis Shapovalov halted yesterday for a far more festive reason: an eight-minute firework display lighting up the skies of Adelaide.

Greece and Italy will now play the mixed doubles match, a dead rubber after Italy confirmed their run into the final.

Bronzetti wins, Italy to play the US in United Cup final

Team Italy will play Team USA tomorrow in Sydney for the inaugural United Cup final after Lucia Bronzetti defeated Valentini Grammatikopoulou in straight sets, winning the tie against Greece for Italy 3-1.

It’s a sensational result for the Italians, who lost the Brisbane city final to Poland but scored entry to the semis as best runner-up.
