That's it for today...

So if you missed it, Australia's World cup campaign is over. The Socceroos were beaten 2-0 by Peru but that result was academic as Denmark played out a dull draw with France, which saw Les Bleus advance as group winners and the Danes through in the second.

Questions will be asked over Australia's attack as they failed to score from open play across their three games - only two Mile Jedinak penalties getting them on the scoresheet.

France will play Argentina next, and Croatia will take on Denmark.

But Argentina themselves were quite lucky to be going through, needing a late goal from Marcos Rojo to steer them into the last 16.

Nigeria had pegged them back to 1-1 via a Victor Moses penalty, and could have had a second spot kick before Manchester United defender Rojo stunned them with a volley off his weaker boot, giving the keeper no chance.

This came after a beautiful goal from Lionel Messi had given the South Americans a 1-0 lead.

They go through, but finish far behind group leaders Croatia, who finished with a perfect nine points after a late Ivan Perisic goal against Iceland.

Given the result in the other game it wouldn't have mattered if they'd won, drawn or lost - they would have gone through on top anyway. But despite that, they caught Iceland on the break as they were desperately chasing a winner that would have put them through instead of Argentina, and the Inter Milan midfielder sealed the win with a classy finish.

So that's four of the eight round of 16 games locked in, and we turn our attention to Groups E and F tomorrow, with plenty on the line. See you then.

Full Time: Argentina 2, Nigeria 1

They've done it, somehow - we were just a couple of minutes from a massive World Cup shock and you have to feel for Nigeria here.

They limited Argentina's chances for the most part, and it was left to a central defender to hit a volley on his weaker foot to steal the game for the South Americans.

They go through in second place in the group, and will play France this weekend.

Croatia advance with a perfect nine points.

Now, Nigeria have about a minute to force some late, late drama...

Croatia score!!

Perisic lashes one home on the counter after Iceland had thrown everyone forward and he drills it home with his left boot - that game is done and dusted and Iceland go out of the World Cup.

Now, Argentina need to hold on through the last couple of minutes.

Argentina lead again!!

What a hit - and the South American giants are back in front via Marcos Rojo the centre back!!

A cross is floated in from the right wing and on his weaker foot, he catches it perfectly and thumps it into the back of the net! Keeper no chance, Maradona for some reason gives the double middle fingers to the camera when it pans to him, and Argentina are back in front.

That's a great goal for Iceland too - now if they score once, they'll advance.

83 minutes gone, 1-1 in both games

Ighalo so close to ending things! He gets in behind them down the left and tries to squeeze a tight finish through at the near post but it's turned away.

Ndidi is fouled after the rebound and Nigeria have a free kick in a dangerous position - Croatia just had one of their own, which Ivan Perisic sent just over the crossbar.

Oghenekaro Etebo takes it, and hits the side netting...some parts of the ground thought it was in and started cheering but we remain level.

As it stands, Nigeria are through - unless they concede, or Iceland score twice in the final few minutes.

The Man City striker is on for the final 11 minutes - and Higuain blazes over from near the penalty spot immediately after!

A glorious chance for the Juventus star, and it stays 1-1.

And now Nigeria want a penalty! We're going to VAR but no call!

A long ball is hoofed into the area for Oghalo for to latch onto, it comes off Rojo and then the striker's effort it wide. He is blowing up deluxe at the referee claiming a penalty, and I thought at first glance it hit his arm as well.

The game is stopped for the review - and it shows that it first comes off Rojo's head, and then his arm - no second spot kick for the Super Eagles. 12 minutes to go, still tied in both games.

Penalty to Iceland - and Sigurdsson scores!

A clear handball by Dejan Lovren as a low cross came into the area, and there can be no arguments about that call.

Gylfi Sigurdsson steps up and unlike against Nigeria, he gets it under the bar and in! Game on, but if this game is drawn they'll need two more!

72 minutes gone, 1-1, 1-0 Croatia

Ndidi hits a powerful drive but it's stoo central, and just over the bar in any case.

In the other came, Iceland go close to an equaliser but Birkir Bjarnason can't get good contact on a finish at the back post and scuffs it wide.
