Across the rugby world, the greatness of the All Blacks was hailed through social media voices after they beat the Wallabies to win their second successive Rugby World Cup with a 34-17 victory at Twickenham.

For Wallabies supporters, the Twitter trail was a journey into despair, then back again, then grasping the inevitable as the All Blacks closed out the game in the kind of clinical style everyone has come to expect.

Their record in the past four years has been so dominant that many began to wonder if they are the best team on the planet, no matter the sport.

In keeping with the tremendous spirit displayed by both teams on the pitch at Twickenham, there was a sense of camaraderie among supporters from both sides of the Tasman.

Australian forward David Pocock was quick to take to Twitter after the match to praise the New Zealanders for their efforts while former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen said the All Blacks were "on another planet".

Rivals were quick to add their praise to the three-time world champions, as well as rugby fans from various sports.

The Kiwis were deserved winners but plenty of Wallaby fans queried referee Nigel Owens' decisions after a few scratchy decisions in the first half.

But most Wallaby supporters could see the upside of a team that was tipped not to even make it out of its pool, only to go close to a boilover in the final. Some of Australian sport's biggest names, as well as some other famous faces, were full of praise.
