Tips and race-by-race preview for Tamworth on Thursday
Track Good 4 and rail True.
RACE 1
1. Takethemoneyandrun is bursting to break through. Lost the rider at this track two starts back before fighting on well enough 18 days ago. Far superior jockey takes over, and stays over the mile trip. 2. Lone Star Dream worked home late into a place when resuming, and the extra 100m is a plus. 3. Stuck In The Gorge disappointed at his second start when well in the market, but better suited here over more ground and back on a drier surface. 8. Rufus Atticus is a hard fit local up in distance, with blinkers back on; while 4. Effietrinket is the best of the rest.
How to play it: Takethemoneyandrun to win.
RACE 2
9. Always A Rainbow is a promising filly by Golden Slipper winner Vancouver on debut for Armidale’s leading stable. Strong through the line under a good hold in a home trial over 1000m, despite over-racing well off the speed early. Drawn to get a handy run in transit, and will be fitted to run this journey. 4. Sipping Shamus chased the speed first-up at Armidale off a 22-week spell, and is on the rise over significantly more ground. Gap to the rest headed by the improving 2. Dunstall The Gun second-up; while at bigger odds 8. Real Housewives can add value into exotic plays.
How to play it: Always A Rainbow to win.
RACE 3
3. Eagleturn is a talented and lightly raced four-year-old, resuming with gear changes for a second campaign and his third start in what is now a weakened race. Tracked the speed in the second of two trials at this track before sweeping home to win with something in the tank, and looks ready to rock. 10. Siragusa is a debutante three-year-old by prolific I Am Invincible coming off two improving trials for a strong trainer-jockey combination. 1. Already Blue third-up over more ground, and 13. Chasing Quivers also up in trip deep into her prep, can battle for the minor money.
How to play it: Eagleturn to win.
RACE 4
1. Knife’s Edge is a tough home tracker well over the odds fourth-up from a softer draw. Reliable weight carrier whose closing effort in the Cowra Cup from a wide barrier was much better than it looked on paper. Drawn to receive a far more favourable run. 5. Nomorenightshift will relish the drop back to country level after working home okay in three consecutive runs in a tougher metropolitan field. 8. Haze drops back significantly in distance and from deeper city opposition five weeks between runs. 3. Tainui hit the line well in the Gilgandra Cup, and drew to get a soft run inside. 9. Taipan Legend a month between runs. Can run into the minor money.
How to play it: Knife’s Edge to win
RACE 5
11. Don’tcha Think is well placed, resuming with gear changes behind two improving trials for the new Annabel and Rob Archibald stable. Comes to hand, and two of his three career wins have come here. 3. Kranich resumes from a steady trial, and very progressive having capped his last prep with a fast-finishing win in a CL3 Saturday Highway at Rosehill. Boasts a four from 12 win record. 5. Night Fighter is honest and trained on the course, and over the odds from the inside. 9. Staffa is a locally-trained mare who can figure in the minor money third-up.
How to play it: Don’tcha Think to win
RACE 6
5. It’s A Tata is a progressive and lightly raced Dubbo three-year-old who can go back-to-back third-up. Held his ground when resuming before improving to easily claim his maiden at Gilgandra. 4. Blue De Beers is another promising one from Dubbo who will likely jump favourite. Was too good from barrier to box for the top selection first-up before being run down late as a hot fancy in a CL2 18 days ago. 2. Mirai San can peak third-up with weight relief. 9. Amoruso is a lightly raced local mare improving third-up over a furlong further; while 8. Call Me Terry resuming behind two trials goes in trifecta and first four plays.
How to play it: It’s A Tata to win.
RACE 7
2. Jasper’s Way is a capable Dubbo four-year-old representing terrific value resuming over this trip. Hasn’t officially trialled, but been in work for some time, and took on tougher opposition over further last winter. Stable is shrewd at getting them ready fresh. Jockey’s 3kg claim is a big factor. 8. Lucky Ozzie is well-placed fourth-up from the inside. Scratched from Gunnedah on Monday to be saved for this. 1. Mellencamp is shooting for a third straight win, although up sharply in weight from a wider draw. 6. Visualise is trained on the track, and primed to peak third-up. 3. Zoomorphic deep into the campaign, and 5. Gerety fifth-up over a furlong further, head the rest.
How to play it: Jasper’s Way to win.
RACE 8
2. Singing Star is a very honest provincial mare resuming from a handy draw behind a trial win. Was nearly always in the money around this sort of class last campaign, and drawn to get the right run just off speed. 3. Straand Care has tactical speed, and will likely jump favourite after missing by a neck first-up under 61kg in a BM 58 at Scone. Rest headed by 7. This One Time sneaking right down in the weights. 5. Solar Blast, a six-year-old having his first start for the local stable, and 9. Rock ‘N’ Reign who is consistent and drawn to get an economical run on speed, can both figure in minor money.
How to play it: Singing Star to win.
