Race-by-race tips and preview for Wyong on Wednesday
Selections based on a good track
Race 1
1. Oakfield Saturn just might have needed the hitout at the mile last time. He was 1200m up to that trip and the leader won so he was always going to be facing a task. Better for that, down a touch in class and draws to get the run of the race. 3. Uncle Harry is racing well of late and while under some pressure early in the straight he responded to score a popular win at Newcastle a few weeks back. Up the 2kg but no harder here and is a good chance. 6. Naughty Nurse proved too good for her opposition at Port Macquarie last month but it was still a strong effort as there was a tearaway leader for her to chase down. She did that and put a margin on them. Could measure up.
How to play it: Oakfield Saturn WIN.
Race 2
2. Daphnes is well worth another chance on her slightly disappointing first-up defeat last month at Canterbury. She’d been trialling strongly and while in a good spot she was clearly outsprinted before closing off okay late. Extra 100m, back to provincial and gate one can see her bounce back. 5. Lapis Lazuli was a big drifter in betting first-up and found herself well back then made some late ground into an unthreatening fourth. Steps beyond 1100m for the first time and no surprise to see her lift. 4. Yattazou has been thereabouts in city maidens this time in with a third at Rosehill two back her best. Has a show here. 3. Michelangelo returns as a gelding and is something of a market watch, his latest trial wasn’t what you’d like to see going into a first-up run but they are only trials.
How to play it: Daphnes WIN.
Race 3
5. Smiling Prophet looked very good winning at Muswellbrook when resuming a couple of weeks ago, scoring with plenty in hand. She was competitive at Midway level last time and she’s run well enough at this trip to suggest it’s not an issue. Should be competitive. 1. Confess Our Dreams strikes the easiest race she’s contested for some time. Did have a nice enough run at Canterbury a month ago when a battling fifth but well suited with the claim and draws to effect. 8. Spice Baby has shown speed in both runs this time in for thirds at Gosford and Hawkesbury. Likely leader here and while she has to take it to 1200m now she should give a good sight.
How to play it: Smiling Prophet WIN.
Race 4
8. Mystical produced an eye-catcher off one trial on debut at Newcastle. Settled midfield over the 900m and was held up at a vital stage before running into second. The extra 200m will be in her favour. She should have improvement and that makes her hard to beat. 4. Paradoxium has been trialling exceptionally in the lead up. He debuted with an even fourth in the Breeders’ Plate where he had his chance from just off the speed. Appears to have come back better and must be respected. 5. Seeiaye jumped straight to the front at Newcastle and held a nice margin on the line. Different set up for him now with a wider gate but hard to fault and he’s a definite threat. 7. Masvingo attacked the line strongly in the Gimcrack on debut when solid in betting.
How to play it: Mystical WIN.
Race 5
6. Northlander has only had the one start and it was a promising one as he sat three wide on the speed and proved too good at Canberra a couple of weeks ago. He put them away quite nicely there and promises to get a kinder run. 7. Vivian’s Express went for a break with a maiden win on a wet track and trialled quite well at Canterbury last week leading into this. Drawn to do no work and is one to keep an eye on. 3. Justice Warrior was a shade disappointing first-up at Gosford but does have a consistent record and could easily improve. Bumped into a couple of handy ones last prep too. Each-way.
How to play it: Northlander WIN.
Race 6
2. King Of Roseau is well placed under these conditions. He’ll appreciate a better surface than when he resumed at Flemington a month ago. Struck a track that deteriorated through the day and that doesn’t suit. Still ran well. Group 3 winner before a break and should go close. 3. Spywire made a nice return with a win at Kembla Grange last month carrying 61kg. Given he wasn’t overly fancied as a $10 chance he’d have improvement in him. Runner-up in the 2yo race here two years ago. Logical danger. 9. O’ Ole is a little hard to line up given it all went wrong for her when resuming at Flemington. She did trial well before that race and has done so again since. Won the 2yo race last year at this meeting.
How to play it: King Of Roseau WIN.
Race 7
5. Whittelsbach comes off a solid win as favourite over a similar trip at Tamworth at her second run from a break. Can only be better for that run and stable in form. Race has fallen away a bit so has a good chance. 6. Rhinestone Lad is another going along nicely with placings at three of his last four including a pair of thirds over this track and distance. Each-way claims again. 3. Craft led all the way to win at Queanbeyan a couple of weeks ago. Does rise in weight but in the small field could take some catching. 1. Due Calzini was always well back in the Country Classic at Rosehill but that won’t likely be the case this time around. Generally consistent and in the mix.
How to play it: Wittelsbach WIN.
