Current and former cricketers have sent their best wishes to Phil Hughes via social media after he was hit by a Sean Abbott bouncer on Tuesday.

Hughes was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney on Tuesday afternoon, after he was struck in the head with a ball delivered by Sean Abbott at the SCG.

The 25-year-old underwent surgery where doctors worked to relieve the pressure on his brain, and just after 5pm, Fairfax Media was told Hughes was out of surgery and in an induced coma.
