STUMPS. New Zealand 5-109

By

That was a great session of Test cricket. Just a quick recap: we saw two wickets in the first two overs, Josh Hazlewood went off injured within the first five overs, Steve Smith took a brilliant diving catch, Ross Taylor withstood pressure to make a handy half century and Mitchell Starc fired in a big way, taking four wickets and even having a hat-trick ball.

Phew .....

Hat-trick ball ...

Mitchell Starc to Ross Taylor ....

Ohhh, a good nut. Taylor chops the ball down. In another time that would have gone onto the stumps!

Pretty dramatic cricket in this final session.

WICKET!!! Two in a row for Starc

By

The nightwatchman, Neil Wagner, chops the ball onto his stumps!

FOUR wickets for Starc and he's now on a hat-trick! It will need to wait until his next over however.

New Zealand 5-97, 29 overs. Wagner b Starc 0 (1b)

WICKET! Aussies grab another one late

Henry Nicholls is GONE after tickling a delivery down the leg side to 'keeper Paine. A third wicket for Starc .... Gee, that would be a frustrating way for a batsman to give up his wicket.

New Zealand 4-97, 28.5 overs. Nicholls c †Paine b Starc 7 (18b)

50 to Ross Taylor

What a gritty innings - 50 runs from 70 balls. He came in amid chaos at the start of New Zealand's innings and has steadied them beautifully.

New Zealand 3-89, 26.2 overs

THAT Steve Smith catch

Reaction time: Steve Smith dives to catch and remove Kane Williamson.AAP

WICKET!!! What a catch Steve Smith

By

NZ skipper Kane Williamson goes! He was caught beautifully at second slip by Smith. One-handed! Diving to his right!

Williamson is OUT after making 34. What a timely wicket for Australia, just as that pairing was looking especially dangerous. And a second wicket for Mitchell Starc.

New Zealand 3-77, 22.4 overs. Williamson c Smith b Starc 34 (70b)

An attempted run-out ...

It was close, but Ross Taylor made his mark safely much earlier in his innings.AAP

New Zealand 2-71, 20 overs

A terrific recovery from Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor after the early carnage where the openers were gone within the first two overs. Taylor's scoring quickly, too, and is set to push well beyond the half century mark by stumps. That's just under an hour away with 13 overs still to be bowled.
