Australia in strong position

By

That concludes a day of highs and lows and everything in between.

The biggest talking point will be the health of Sri Lanka opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne after he was struck on the neck by a Cummins bouncer and taken to hospital with pain in his neck and tingling in his arms.

Sri Lanka were cruising until that moment at 0-82, but struggled after Karunaratne retired hurt and finished at 3-123 with De Silva on one and Perera 11.

It came after the Aussies declared at 5-534, with Kurtis Patterson scoring his maiden century and unbeaten on 114.

Australia will look to press home their advantage when play resumes on Sunday.

Back on the boat to England?

Not a good shot from Chandimal, but this wicket will do Starc's confidence a world of good.

Is that the turning point in him keeping his spot in the Australian XI for the first Ashes Test later this year?
