Play abandoned for day three
By
Umpires have called the day off with Pakistan 3-39 and Australia needing just seven wickets in two days to claim victory in the Test.
It's a disappointing way to end what has been a rather intriguing if ultimately one-sided in the end. Babar Azam was brilliant before falling for 97 and handing the reigns to the leg-spinner Yasir Shah who ended on 113. Mitchell Starc was the best of the Aussie bowlers, finishing with 6-66, while Pat Cummins (3-83) and Josh Hazlewood (1-48) completing the wickets.
Tim Paine enforced the follow-on and Australia got off to a perfect start before dinner with Hazlewood removing Imam ul-Haq for a duck. Azhar Ali fell to Starc and a brilliant catch by Steve Smith before Hazlewood had the dangerous Babar Azam caught behind for 8.
Pakistan will resume tomorrow with the disciplined Shaan Masood (14no) and Asad Shafiq (8no).
We'll be back tomorrow as Australia chase a commanding victory and leave you with the image of the day, Yasir Shah's brilliant century celebration after having never before scored 50.

Proper rain this time
By
The covers are being made to earn their keep now and a strong chance they won't get back on tonight. Given there are two more days available in this match, surely the Aussies wouldn't be pushing too hard to get back on the ground tonight. We'll keep you posted.
The beauty of these delays for Paine has been the fact he can keep his preferred pacemen going without fear of burnout. Cummins continues at a good length against Asad for five balls but off we go again and it looks a bit heavier this time. The efficiency of the ground staff is comparable to a F1 pit crew - they've had enough practice.

Covers off
By
Adelaide Oval staff again get the covers off and the stumps go back in for what we hope is a prompt resumption.

Another rain delay
By
Out come the covers again but the Australians are staying on the field, showing it can't be too bad. The umpires wave them off though as the rain picks up. Those on the ground again say the delay will only be a short one but time is running out in the day.

Close calls
By
Cummins resumes and has a not so happy smile on his face as Shaan guides a shot between backward point and gully for four, and it may have even carried to a fielder. His comeback is a good one outside the outside edge. Asad is forced to dive as Travis Head puts on the pressure in the outfield but his throw is too wide and Shaan picks up two more. Pakistan move to 3-38 with Shaan on 14 and Asad on 7.

DRINKS: PAKISTAN 2ND INNINGS 3-29
By
Asad not particularly convincing as Cummins bowls his second maiden. Hazlewood strays from his line and length to drop a couple in short, the second of which Shaan pulls beautifully to beat Cummins at deep backward square. With that shot Shaan doubles his run tally to 8 off 48 balls. And that's drinks in this night session. 22 more overs remaining in the day, or so they hope.

Australia waste a review
By
Shaan has a nervous wait as Australia are convinced they've got him caught behind, but their poor form with the decision review system continues. It's clipped the thigh pad. Another moment of excitement comes after a well-directed short ball by Hazlewood collects Shaan on the helmet. It's an ordinary shot but no damage done but a replacement lid is required.

Aussies excited now
By
There's a mixed response from the bowler Cummins and those behind the wicket for a caught behind. Cummins wasn't so sure and the excitement wavers quickly from his mates. No review but the Aussies have their tails up. Cummins delivers another peach that pitches around leg stump end beats Shaan outside off stump. Too good. Asad gets off the mark with a four from his first ball faced, as have a couple of his colleagues already today, with a ball flicked uppishly off his legs.
