After a "ripper" effort to take home the silver medal in Tuesday night's 1500m, Australian wheelchair racing champion Kurt Fearnley has confirmed the race would be his last, issuing a passionate challenge to his fans.

"That's done. That's absolutely everything that I had," Fearnley said in the post-race interview after being asked if it would be his last appearance on the track.

Fearnley said he'd be looking forward to passing the baton to younger teammate Jake Lappin, who took bronze in the event.

"At the end of a very long track career it's good to see old Jake, not young Jake no more ... he's one to watch in Tokyo for sure, but I'll be watching with everyone else."

Although it will be his last track appearance, Fearnley hasn't completely quit racing. He'll be competing in Sunday's marathon event, as well as the London Marathon in under a fortnight.

Praising his "fantastic" fans for how they had embraced all the para events at the Commonwealth Games, Fearnley also issued a passionate plea that people make disability rights and access a priority in their everyday lives.

"I've been put in this amazing position of privilege that I'm extremely grateful for, and I've just got to say there's a lot of people with disabilities out there that haven't been given the privilege that I have," he said.

"We're doing it as a team ... so I think tomorrow maybe we can go back to work, and speak to your co-workers about getting more people with disabilities in there, or your education facilities, or into your public transport. This right here is a success, and let's remind ourselves of that and what our real purpose is."
