AFL investigation finds car in social media post was not Goodwin’s

Updated ,first published

The AFL is working to identify the person behind a social media post about Simon Goodwin that sparked a report by Melbourne to the league’s integrity unit, but the Demons coach doesn’t want to take the matter any further.

Goodwin was the subject of a social media post on X just after 6pm on Sunday following his side’s loss to St Kilda after the siren.

An anonymous account posted a picture of a car in a car park, with the words: “I’m currently waiting outside Simon Goodwin’s car: Don’t fret Melbourne fans you won’t need to worry any further.”

Security officials at the stadium were alerted at the time.

A league spokesperson said on Monday that Goodwin did not wish to take the matter further and there was no further action from Victoria Police.

The car in the photo was not Goodwin’s, and the car park was not at Marvel Stadium.

The AFL is working with X to identify the owner of the account.

A man was banned from AFL matches for five years earlier this month after leaving an inappropriate message about Carlton coach Michael Voss on the anti-social hotline at the MCG.
