Brayshaw out for season, unable to eat solid food for four weeks

Fremantle youngster Andrew Brayshaw will not play again this season, and will not be able to eat solid food for four weeks, after having surgery overnight in Perth.

Brayshaw, the No.2 pick in last year's national draft, had his jaw broken and teeth displaced after a shocking punch from Eagles star Andrew Gaff in Sunday's derby.

He was taken straight to hospital after the incident and had surgery on Sunday night, which Fremantle confirmed had gone well in a statement on Monday morning.

"Andrew Brayshaw had surgery overnight to repair his broken jaw and three displaced lower teeth, which have been put back into place and splinted," the club said.

"Club medical staff have advised that the surgery went well and Brayshaw is now recovering at home with his parents.

"He can not eat solid food for four weeks and will not play again this season."

Gaff said he 'felt sick' at what he had done, and faces a lengthy ban for the hit. He will be referred straight to the tribunal.
