Tom Hawkins and Cats ‘ways apart’ on new contract

By

Former Geelong assistant coach Josh Jenkins says Cats great Tom Hawkins has told him that he’s still “some ways apart” from signing a new deal.

Hawkins, 35, is out of contract and has yet to reach terms on a deal to play on in 2024.

“He was willing enough to tell me, that he and the Cats are still ways apart with the new contract,” Jenkins said on SEN.

Duursma to seek move to Bombers

By Peter Ryan

Xavier Duursma will request a trade to Essendon.

The 23-year-old has played 71 games for the Power, but is seeking more opportunities elsewhere.

The winger could be part of a deal which sees Brandon Zerk-Thurtcher end up at the Power. The defender has turned down a three-year deal from the Bombers and asked to be traded to Port Adelaide.

When asked earlier today whether Zerk-Thatcher was worth a second-round pick, Bombers’ list manager Adrian Dodoro said: “It depends, there might be players involved.”

Dockers forward requests trade to Magpies

By Michael Gleeson

Fremantle small forward Lachie Schultz has asked for a move to Collingwood.

The Docker, who kicked 33 goals this season and 30 goals in 2022, informed the Dockers on Monday that he wants to move to Victoria.

The 25-year-old, who has played 90 games, has requested the club deals with the new premiers. Schultz is from Moama and played his under-18 football with the Bendigo Pioneers, before being drafted with pick 57 in the 2018 national draft.

Schultz, who turns 26 next month, is a two-time Glendinning-Allan medallist, most recently in round 22 this year when he kicked 5.3 against the Eagles.

He was to be out of contract at year’s end, but activated a trigger mid-year, tying him to the club until the end of 2024.

St Kilda list analysis

By

Lots happening at the Saints.

Liam Stoker, Ryan Byrnes, Jimmy Webster and Zak Jones were all re-signed today.

Jade Gresham has been linked to the Bombers. The Saints would receive compensation for his move.

Nick Coffield linked to the Dogs.

The Saints are keen on Paddy Dow and Liam Henry, however have been told by the Bombers that Dylan Shiel won’t be up for trade.

Then there’s the chance Jack Billings finds a new home this year, potentially at Collingwood.

Pies have ‘mild interest’ in Saints’ Jack Billings

By

Collingwood’s list manager Graham Wright says the Magpies have “mild interest” in St Kilda’s Jack Billings.

The former No.3 draft pick has played 155 matches for the Saints, but just three games in 2023.

Wright said he was watching the situation with Billings, who is contracted at the Saints for the next two years.

“I have heard his name around, but we have I suppose a mild interest,” Wright told AFL Trade Radio.

Father-son part of Dogs’ thinking for trading picks 10 and 17

By Marc McGowan

The Western Bulldogs boldly parted with three first-round selections for Gold Coast’s pick four, knowing they have another top-line father-son recruit on the way.

The Dogs sent picks 10 and 17, as well as their future first-round choice, to the Suns on Monday in exchange for selections four, 46 and 51 and a future third-rounder.

Jordan Croft, a 200-centimetre forward-ruck whose father Matthew played 186 games for the club, is yet to officially nominate as father-son eligible, but Bulldogs list boss Sam Power said they were “really keen”.

The 18-year-old would add to an impressive collection of tall timber at the Kennel, including Aaron Naughton, Tim English, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Sam Darcy, and is expected to attract an opposition bid anywhere from pick 10 to somewhere in the mid-teens.
