Trade period day seven as it happened: Jacob hops to Tigerland, Grundy a Demon, Gunston a Lion, Cats bag Bowes, Frampton joins Pies

Jacob Hopper has been traded from the Giants to Richmond.

The midfielder was traded for Richmond’s future first-round pick and pick 31 with pick swaps at the back end of the deal.

Richmond ruckman Ivan Soldo was not part of the deal.

The Giants took a good look at adding Soldo to their list, but decided against it as he did not fit their plans for this trade period, and instead settled for the two picks for Hopper.

They are still in the hunt for Hawthorn midfielder Jaeger O’Meara after making a late play for him.

Brodie Grundy has bid farewell to the Collingwood faithful.

Collingwood football manager Graham Wright has confirmed on AFL Trade Radio the club was not willing to accept pick 25 for Oliver Henry and, at this stage, that was all that was on offer from Geelong.

The Cats will be striving to satisfy the Magpies but do not have a lot of currency at this stage to create such a deal given they are determined to hang onto the pick 7 they acquired through the Jack Bowes trade and have to hang onto their future first-round pick after trading out their future second-, third- and fourth-round picks.

As Michael Gleeson forecast earlier, Adelaide have now officially traded ruckman Billy Frampton to Collingwood for a future third-round pick.

Frampton joins his third club, having started his career with Port Adelaide.

The much-talked about “salary dump” deal has been completed.

Gold Coast have sent Jack Bowes, and his sizeable salary, as well as pick No.7 to Geelong in exchange for a future third-round selection.

Trade deals don’t get much more lopsided than that!

North erred in selecting Jason Horne-Francis at pick No.1 in last season’s national draft.

Leaving aside the fact Collingwood father-son Nick Daicos was the best player in that draft, the hyphenated bull never settled in the paddock filled with Kangaroos.

He will be better off in South Australia at Port Adelaide and North Melbourne are better off without him, as long as the Kangaroos admit they fell well short of creating a good environment for the 19-year-old to flourish this year and learn from it.
