The difference in the match?

After halftime centre clearance they were plus 11 which meant they had territory. We were defending a lot. That made a difference. I thought even throughout the whole game, though, I thought we just turned the ball over without pressure from Richmond necessarily. I think three goals in the first-quarter came from unforced errors by us. So across the game it was those turnovers that was sometimes to do with Richmond’s pressure, sometimes to do with our poor skill execution. I thought centre bounce battle in the second-half they flipped it on its head which was the reason they were able to win the game.

How hard is it to compete in that territory game when you are getting beaten around the centre, centre bounces?

Extremely difficult. Every time wants to win the centre bounce clearances. We were going really well in that area the first half. Probably didn’t capitalise enough from the opportunities we had. Richmond certainly were able to. They didn’t necessarily score from centre bounce but the territory that they got gave them the opportunity to force turnover in their front half.

You must have been proud of the way Jack performed in the 300th?

It was great, wasn’t it. I didn’t realise he kicked six until somebody said. It was terrific. We realise what a quality player he is, to see that sort of game in his 300th was very nice really. The way he goes about his footy, he prepares very well. He leads from the front and just really really pleased our players played a really solid game for him, he got the reward he was after. He’ll get back and hopefully play in front of some family next week. I think he had his brother or two up here. Yeah, we look forward to letting him celebrate with his family first and foremost. It would be great to get some fans there at some stage. Not looking likely at this stage.

What update have you got on Dustin Martin’s injury? Is it ribs?

He got a kick in his stomach he sent him to hospital for precautionary reasons, we wanted to make sure he was available to fly, a tough drive for Dusty otherwise. Once we get further details we will pass them on.

Is he sore? How’s he feeling?

Jack High: Tigers back into the eight after victory in Riewoldt’s 300th

By Damien Ractliffe

Richmond have breathed life into their season, jumping temporarily back into the top eight with a gritty victory over the Brisbane Lions on the Gold Coast.

Breaking a run of four straight losses including defeats to Gold Coast and Collingwood in the past fortnight, the Tigers celebrated Jack Riewoldt’s 300th match with a brilliant second half that saw them run away with a 20-point win at Metricon Stadium.

But the Tigers’ injuries woes continued with Kamdyn McIntosh subbed out at quarter-time due to a hamstring strain and champion Dustin Martin sidelined late in the third term following a collision with Mitch Robinson. David Astbury then left the field with an ankle concern with just minutes left on the clock.

Dusty Martin to get scans tonight

By

Richmond football general manager Tim Livingstone says the Tigers will take Dusty Martin for scans tonight ahead of their flight back to Melbourne tomorrow.

Martin was shown painfully wincing after taking heavy contact to his side/hip/rib area in the final term.

“Yeah he was sore, obviously it was a heavy hit around the rib cage area,” Livingstone told Channel Seven.

“Given we are flying tomorrow we will take him and get him looked at straight away. To make sure he was OK.”

Worries over Dusty

Richmond has recorded a cracking win but how injured is Dusty Martin?

The Tigers great went down with a painful-looking injury which could be ribs, could be a hip-pointer or something else.

He looked very ginger after the game.

FT: Richmond 16.10 (106) d Brisbane Lions 13.8 (86)

By Roy Ward

Many questioned if the Tigers had any fight left in them and Jack Riewoldt answered in the affirmative kicking six goals as he kept Richmond in the AFL finals race with a win over Brisbane.

Riewoldt knew his side had something left to give despite the wild 24 hours which saw the side have to suddenly shift up to Queensland ahead of the match.

“It’s been a whirlwind last 24 hours, a whirlwind 24 hours since the Collingwood game finished,” Riewoldt told Channel Seven post game.

“I’ve had the most amazing week. I want to thank everyone who sent me a message. Most of all I want to thank my teammates for doing a little bit of something for me. I appreciate it.

“It’s a big game for our season. Brisbane is a great side. To have the quick turnaround to come here and play in Queensland, it’s an unbelievable achievement.

“I had three hours to get ready to come out here. The club said make sure you get something to eat before you come to the plane. I’m not going to lie, I ducked into the airport, Maccas. I had a chicken wrap, then I was eating meatballs watching the Tour de France at 1am this morning. Not the perfect preparation, I didn’t have a lot of sleep. I had the best week.”
