Brett Ratten is speaking to the press now ...

Ratten was obviously delighted with what happened on the MCG tonight.

“Tonight we applied ourselves,” he said. “The players work and what they have done behind the scenes [was pleasing].

“It is a big step forward for our group.“

He lauded the influence of Paddy Ryder and Rowan Marshall who played together against Richmond for the first time tonight.

“The support it gives Max [King] in the front half [is important too],” he said.

‘It looks that way’: ACL likely for Balta

By

Damien Hardwick said “it doesn’t look great” for Noah Balta, who went off with a knee injury.

“It looks that way [ACL],” Hardwick said, but saying he would wait for scans for final confirmation. That’s likely season over for Balta, and most of next year too.

Nathan Broad has syndesmosis, he said. That’s a long stint on the sidelines. But he should get back for the finals if they get there.

“We didn’t train probably as well as we would have liked,” Hardwick said. “St Kilda were very good we were very poor. We are off the pact at the moment there’s no doubt about that.

“I’d like to think we’re a proud club and we don’t let people down too often, don’t let our fans down, but I thought tonight we just didn’t fire a shot. It was incredibly disappointing.

“Generally, we look and we surge at some stage, but we never felt that probably happened at any stage tonight. A lot of credit goes to the Saints, they played some really good footy, but I was disappointed at no stage we probably challenged.”

Skipper Jack Steele speaks post game

By

“We were under the pump quite a lot over the last couple of weeks. It’s definitely nice to be able to come out and beat the Tigers on the MCG on Friday night. Glad the boys responded,” Steele said.

“We were just really connected. Probably something we haven’t done all year is play out four quarter s. Each quarter we broke it down and took it quarter by quarter. We were able to keep them to a low score which is pleasing but we were able to kick a nice score ourselves so that’s great too.”

Luke Dunstan talks after the game

By

“It was a frustrating couple of weeks. We felt we played some good footy in patches then obviously some really poor footy for the second half. It was pleasing tonight that we were able to put the four quarters together and sew the game up,” Dunstan, who starred said.

“Not too much. We’ve obviously had some pretty honest conversations as they tend to happen when you’re playing the footy that we were dishing up.

“We just made a commitment that we’d come out for the back half of the year and commit to two things and we did those pretty well tonight, I think.”

32 touches and ELEVEN CLEARANCES for Luke Dunstan tonight!

What a win for St Kilda! Season is alive

By

Richmond were sloppy. The kicked badly and they handballed badly. Their intensity was off and they gave up way too much space.

It was troubling-ly uncharacteristic.

But don’t take anything away from the Saints.

They were careful, they were quick and they took their chances. Max King and Jack Higgins converting set shots early were really good omens.

Finals hopes alive.
