West Australian Liberal MP Ian Goodenough has spent time on a ventilator during a four-night stay at a Perth hospital with a serious chest infection.

His office confirmed he took himself to Joondalup Health Campus’ emergency department in Perth’s northern suburbs on Monday morning after he began feeling ill.

WAtoday understands the Moore MP, 48, was on a ventilator for a short period, but is recovering and should be discharged either Friday afternoon or over the weekend.

Goodenough has a degenerative kidney disorder that requires him to receive dialysis treatments multiple times per week.

WA Labor Senator Louise Pratt and Goodenough’s offices ran the Showcase WA event at Parliament House last week, which saw businesses and government departments descend on Canberra to attract more investment to the state.

Goodenough has retained Moore since he was first elected in 2013 but came perilously close to losing it at the 2022 election where four other Liberals lost their seats.

He weathered a huge 10.9 per cent swing against him on a two-party basis to retain the seat by 0.7 per cent.

Goodenough’s illness means he will not attend a Liberal Party fundraising dinner at the Westin Hotel in Perth’s CBD on Friday where opposition leader Peter Dutton is scheduled to give a speech.

Dutton spent Friday visiting WA businesses to highlight cost of living issues in the state.

Dutton will not be attending an event hosted by the WA Liberals on Sunday to launch the party’s campaign to vote no for the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
