‘I doubt she will be the last’: Husband of woman killed in e-motorbike crash speaks out

The husband of a Perth nurse killed when she was struck be an e-motorbike while walking through an Edgewater park last month has released a statement remembering his wife as someone who was “loved by so many”.

Here’s the full statement:

Firstly, I want to thank the police for their support and kindness towards me during this very difficult time. I also want to acknowledge the very difficult work they are called to do under very challenging circumstances and often in the face of derision and ingratitude.

The loss of my dear wife Shelley was both a shock and a tragedy in so many ways. Many people’s lives have been negatively impacted by her death.

My wife was an excellent nurse and many people will now never be blessed to be cared for by her. She was admired, respected and loved by so many of her colleagues. Her infectious smile was disarming and her dedication and diligence in everything she applied herself to was something increasingly difficult to find in today’s society.

Shelley’s life is not the first to end in this tragic manner and sadly I doubt will be the last. As a society we must pause and reflect upon the kind of world we want to live in and begin making choices which result in us moving towards that world. Let us choose to not continue repeating the mistakes of the past.

WA must ‘take action to save its coral reefs’

By Emma Young

Climate Analytics has today published the emissions targets WA would need to set for 2030 and 2035 to align with the world’s aim to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

WA is the only Australian state without a legislated emissions reduction target, despite being the country’s wealthiest, having only a stated commitment to reach net zero by 2050.

To align with 1.5C pathways, the independent scientific research group says WA would need to reduce net emissions by at least 42 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030, and at least 63 per cent by 2035.

“From coral bleaching to heatwaves and floods, WA is experiencing its own share of extreme climate events, which will only get worse if we continue pumping fossil fuels into the atmosphere,” said Bill Hare, chief executive of Climate Analytics.

Dockers’ final home game close to selling out after Fyfe announces retirement
