Major crime division Detective Inspector Jessica Securo said the four were believed to all be part of the same family unit.

No new taxes: WA’s peak mining body submits pre-budget wishlist

By Michael Philipps

No new or additional taxes, environmental reform and improved energy investment are at the top of the list of recommendations made by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA ahead of the government’s next federal budget.

The state’s peak mining body has released its 2026-27 federal pre-budget submission for the federal government which highlights that while the resource industry supports the nation’s ambition to reach net zero by 2050, it must not come at the expense of energy reliability and affordability.

CMEWA chief executive Aaron Morey said the Australian resources sector invested $1.7 trillion over the past two decades to build an industry that pays the highest average wages in the country and underwrites both the WA and national budgets.

However, Morey believes the fundamentals underpinning that investment are eroding quickly.

Notorious Perth bikie back in court over new charge

By Rebecca Peppiatt

Notorious Perth bikie Troy Mercanti has once again faced a Perth magistrate after he was arrested just before the new year, accused of “consorting with a named offender”.

The charge is designed to disrupt organised crime and criminal networks like outlaw motorcycle gangs by making it a crime for convicted offenders to associate with each other.

It means that a person has been officially warned by the police to stay away from specific individuals but has ignored that warning by meeting or communicating with them multiple times.

Mercanti’s charges related to an alleged incident in the suburb of Jordan Springs, west of Sydney, on December 28, after he headed over east for a holiday.

He appeared in Perth Magistrates Court this morning in relation to the charge, but the matter was adjourned to March 16.

The 58-year-old has pleaded not guilty to two other charges of damaging property and fighting in public causing fear.

He’ll be back in court in April to fight those allegations.

Where the bodies were found in the home would form part of the investigation, Securo said, but noted they were found in different parts of the property.

“At this stage, I’m not able to disclose how these persons are deceased,” she said.

“However, I do reiterate that there doesn’t appear to be a violent incident that has occurred at the house.”
