Perth podcaster charged with murder over stabbing death of Bassendean woman
A Perth occult and conspiracy theory podcaster has been charged with the murder of a woman in Bassendean on Wednesday.
Tobias Nuttall, 32, is the co-host of the Waking World podcast, which covers “the occult, magick, spirituality, and everything clandestine”.
He appeared wearing a blue prison jumpsuit in Midland Magistrates Court on Friday and spoke only to acknowledge his name.
Nuttall was arrested after police were called to a house on Reid Street in Bassendean about midday on Wednesday, responding to reports of a serious incident.
A 30-year-old woman was found with stab wounds at the scene and taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where she later died.
This masthead understands Nuttall and the woman were engaged, and had just returned home to Perth following a vacation.
Nuttall, who is from the north-east suburb of Brigadoon, graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor of philosophy in 2019.
The description of the podcast he launched with a friend states it is “where reality gets a reality check”.
“Have you ever questioned why things are the way they are? Pondered about the shadowy recesses of existence? Or perhaps you’ve stumbled across a conspiracy theory at 3am and wondered, ‘what if?’ Well, welcome to our weekly ritual!” the blurb reads.
“For those who dare to look beyond the surface, for souls that seek more than just the ordinary, for beings who laugh in the face of the enigmatic – this is your sanctuary.”
Nuttall will next appear in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on September 17.
