Coogee Beach shark barrier opens for WA swimmers
Aleisha Orr
Swimmers in Perth will be able to make the most of the state's first shark barrier when it is officially unveiled at Coogee Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eco Shark Barrier is undergoing final adjustments in the water.
Made of interlocking cross connectors constructed out of stretchable and durable engineering polymer, it will be held in place by a series of anchors and buoys and will stretch 75 metres out from the beach and 300 metres across.

Another shark barrier is currently under construction at Dunsborough beach and is expected to be operational in January.
An increased number of shark attacks along West Australia's coast have sparked a number of shark mitigation strategies across the state.
