Two Perth hills bushfires under investigation by police
Two bushfires - one that threatened lives and homes in the Perth hills on Friday evening - are now under investigation by police.
The first fire was reported just before 5pm at Boya Quarry Reserve and residents were told to leave as there was a threat to lives and homes.
The emergency was threatening parts of Boya, Darlington, Greenmount, Helena Valley and Hovea in the Shire of Mundaring.
The fire was later downgraded, however it is still burning but contained and under control.
Aerial crews, as well as career and volunteer firefighters remained at the scene on Saturday.
“Stay alert and monitor your surroundings as conditions could change,” a DFES alert said.
“You may need to act quickly so ensure you are prepared if the situation gets worse.”
A second fire was reported at about 2.20am on Saturday in bushland in nearby Koongamia.
It has now been contained and firefighters continued to monitor it throughout the day.
An evacuation centre was opened at Brown Park Community Centre in Swan View but has since closed.
The bushfire was moving in a north-easterly direction.
On Saturday WA Police said Strike Force Vulcan officers were now investigating the origins of both fires and urge anyone with any information relating to this fire to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au or by phone on 1800 333 000.
Rewards of up to $25,000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of
an arsonist.
