Tradespeople have discovered human remains while working on a major project in regional Victoria.

Officers said the workers unearthed the bones on Friday while undertaking $13 million redevelopment works on Victoria Park in Echuca.

“The bones have since been assessed and determined they are human remains,” police said in a statement.

“A crime scene has been established, and the Echuca crime investigation unit are making enquiries into the matter.

The bones have been confirmed as human remains, with more testing now underway.

“The bones will undergo forensic testing and, at this stage, the circumstances surrounding the death of the person are yet to be determined. This includes whether the matter is suspicious.”

Victoria Park is currently undergoing a $13 million redevelopment, including a new pavilion. Works began in October last year.

Anyone with information about the matter is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppers.com.au.
