Police investigate after badly decomposed body found in creek

A badly decomposed body has been found in Dandenong Creek in Melbourne's south-east.

The grim discovery was made by workers in the area just after 1pm on Wednesday.

The body was found in the creek bed near EastLink and Greens Road in Dandenong South.

Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit members are at the scene and the Homicide Squad has been notified, police spokeswoman Natalie Butler said.

Police are yet to reveal the age and gender of the person, the circumstances of their death, or how long they have been dead.

The cause of death is yet to be determined and police will await the results of an autopsy.
