Man found with gunshot wounds after Epping car crash

A man was found with gunshot wounds and a woman is fighting for life following a crash in Melbourne’s north overnight.
Police established a significant crime scene on Cooper Street near the Hume Freeway exit in Epping, after finding the 23-year-old seriously injured about 9.30pm on Monday.
Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a collision between a car and a truck, finding the man injured on arrival. He was transported to hospital in a serious condition.
An 18-year-old woman from the same car was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries believed to be a result of the collision.
The truck driver was uninjured, and police do not believe they had any involvement in the shooting.
Officers on scene located a car on fire a short distance away on Cooper Street.
Police are yet to determine if the car fire is linked to the shooting and crash.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established, and an investigation is ongoing.
The road in Melbourne’s north reopened in both directions shortly after 6am on Tuesday.
