Armed man on the run after car crash, robbery in Wantirna South

An armed man is on the run after crashing a ute in Wantirna South and then stealing a nearby car at gunpoint.

Police are appealing for anyone who has information about the chaotic events after the man caused significant damage to a home when he crashed a stolen ute into it on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Cynthia Court in Wantirna South just before 1pm after reports of a vehicle crashing into the fence.

A female occupant was inside the house and was uninjured. Police said her home, including the fence, was “significantly damaged” in the incident.

Police said the driver walked into a nearby family home armed with what they believe was a firearm and demanded the male occupant’s car keys.

Channel Nine reported the driver was wearing a ski mask and went into the family home where a mother, father and one of their sons were inside.

The driver took the father’s car and drove off. He has not yet been found.

Police said anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
