He should make more time for this sort of thing, Eddie thought, seeing his daughter’s eyes twinkle.
“Look out, Dad, it’s gunna be rapid,” Jess yelled joyfully from beneath the clothesline.
“Go easy,” Eddie said, as she ran in to bowl.
Why he did it, he would never understand, but having hitherto played the patsy, Eddie danced down the wicket and crunched the ball into the next postcode.
“Dad! That was our only ball,” Jess cried, running inside, her eyes welling up.
His bat limp by his side, Eddie’s regret was tempered by one insidious thought: that was some shot.
