Search launched for missing swimmer on Sunshine Coast

A swimmer went missing from a Sunshine Coast beach on Wednesday evening, with search efforts continuing into the night.

Police said the person was last seen about 4.15pm at Buddina Beach, an ocean-facing beach on the northern end of Kawana Beach.

Search efforts were still under way about 7pm, with water police and Polair being assisted by life savers, jet skis and foot patrols.

Officers urged anyone with information about the missing swimmer to contact police.

The search comes hours after the body of a 20-year-old man who went missing in surf on the Gold Coast was recovered on Wednesday.

The man was seen struggling in the water off Main Beach, near Breaker Street, about 6.30pm on Tuesday before witnesses lost sight of him.
