Rain to dampen Brisbane for a week, with muggy days on end

Dominique Tassell

Wet weather is expected to envelop Brisbane for days, with humidity creeping in between showers.

The damp conditions would set in from Thursday, Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Jonathan How said.

“There’s a lot of tropical moisture over the east coast of Queensland at the moment, and it’s all just waiting to come on shore and that will start from tomorrow.

“We’ll see the winds shifting to become a little bit more easterly, and that will push the rain onto the coast.”

Rain on Thursday was expected to increase throughout the day, with the eastern suburbs of Brisbane and down towards the Gold Coast seeing most of the falls.

“We’ll see a few showers around the city, sort of tapering off towards the western suburbs.

“And then on Friday we see that rainfall pick up further. Friday looks to be the wettest day of the outlook. We could see even up to 50 millimetres in some suburbs, but it will sort of vary again from the coast to inland.”

Wet weather is expecting to continue through the weekend, though at a lower intensity.

“A few showers about, nothing too major. Into the new week, it has showers each day,” How said.

“[There will be] the possibility of showers every day. The next 10 days, it looks like.”

Wet weather will stick around until winds from the west bring dry weather with them, meaning next week was expected to be humid and drizzly.

“I guess the upside is that it’s not super hot, temperatures in the high 20s, but it will be very muggy.”

The rain was not expected to be enough to cause flash flooding but storm drains might overflow.
