Man dies on Gold Coast beach after being pulled to shore by son

A man has died after being pulled from the water on the Gold Coast.

Paramedics were called to Currumbin Alley just before 8am on Wednesday.

Nine reported the man was a 74-year-old surfer, pulled to the shore unconscious about 7.30am by his son.

The man was believed to have suffered a medical episode.

His son, surfers and surfing instructors in the area pulled the man to a sandbank and performed CPR.

“Despite the efforts and resuscitation efforts of family, lifeguards and the paramedics who arrived on scene, the patient was unable to be revived and has since passed away,” Queensland Ambulance Services spokesman Justin Payne said.
