Man charged with attempted murder after alleged daylight knife attack

Brisbane police have laid an attempted murder charge after a young woman was allegedly attacked with a knife in broad daylight by an unknown man.

Investigations suggest the 25-year-old East Brisbane woman was walking along Vulture Street in the suburb when she was allegedly confronted and attacked about 2pm on Saturday, police said in a statement.

"The woman sustained serious injuries as a result of this incident," police said.

The 37-year-old man, who also lives in East Brisbane and was not known to the woman, was arrested nearby a short time later after police patrols.

He has been charged with attempted murder, going armed to cause fear, and possessing a knife in public.

The man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
